Does IKEA US allow AI agents?
Source as of
IKEA US's own rules for AI agents and automation.
Source: ikea.com · Terms: 2026-09-02
Bans automated devices only 'to monitor, copy or scrape'. No AI-agent or benchmarking clause found. Nothing has been tested yet.
- Our testing
- Testable with conditions (not tested yet)
- Terms re-check
- Pending: no test runs until the day-before terms check passes
robots.txt: robots.txt disallows */search/?q=*, *?filter=*, /compare* and *OrderItemDisplay* for all user-agents. Binding per Skeptic's ruling (Oct 14 2026): agents reach items by browsing categories only, never search URLs, filters or compare. Sort-option and cart path checks are pending before any dry run; tasks that could land on a disallowed path are Reported-only.
What the site's own pages say
Each line links to the page it comes from. Lines marked as crawler rules come from the site's robots.txt and tell automated crawlers what not to fetch; they are not legal terms.
-
prohibits robot, spider, other automatic device or manual process to monitor, copy or scrape without prior express written consent of an authorized IKEA executive
-
bars actions imposing unreasonable or disproportionately large load on infrastructure
Conditions for any first-hand test here
Nothing has been tested on IKEA US yet. If we do, every run follows these rules:
- Human pace only.
- One session per task.
- Stop before any confirm, payment or registration submit.
- No CAPTCHA solving.
- Never hide that it is an AI agent.
- Text verdicts only: no screenshots or site content published (screenshots stay private evidence).
- Re-check the site's terms the day before the run.
- If bot defenses block the agent, record Blocked; never work around them.
